HANDS-ON LABS
Hands-on labs have always been one of the most popular features of the Microsoft Management Summit. Again this year, MMS 2012 will feature more lab topics, more instructor-led lab sessions and extended self-paced lab opening times. We're also offering the option to add online labs access for six months post-event — for more information, check out the Extended Lab Subscription page.
Lab topics hosted during the event will cover a broad range of IT Management products and solutions using System Center products and Windows Management Technologies. New and updated lab topics are being added this year to cover upcoming product releases such as Configuration Manager 2012, Operations Manager 2012, Virtual Machine Manager 2012, Service Manager 2010 R2 and many more. The lab topic categories being offered at this year’s event include:
- Application Virtualization
- Client and Device Management Technologies
- Configuration Management
- Datacenter Management
- Management Solutions & Best Practices
- Operations Management
- Private Cloud
- Virtualization Management
Please note that all topics being offered as instructor-led sessions are also available in the self-paced lab area.
Lab Session Scheduling
Instructor-led lab are 75 minutes long. Scheduled lab sessions start on Monday, April 16th. These Monday lab sessions are extremely popular and tend to be fully booked well before the event opens. All registered attendees interested in attending labs are strongly encouraged to book places in Instructor-led lab sessions as early as possible after registering since the most popular topics are often fully booked before the event opens. A waitlist system will be put into place for any topics that become fully booked.
Lab Formats
Instructor-led labs: Instructor-led lab (ILL) sessions run throughout the week, during which an instructor provides an introduction to each lab topic and leads attendees step-by-step through the lab procedure for a specific topic. Places in all instructor-led lab sessions may be reserved in advance though the MMS 2012 attendee web site “Session Scheduler” tool. Prior reservations are strongly recommended since sessions often become fully booked before the event opens, particularly for the opening day.
Self-paced labs: The self-paced hands-on lab area offers walk-up access to all lab topics allowing attendees to complete their choice of lab without an instructor at any time during the event. Lab proctor support is provided in this area during session time-slots and the area remains open outside session times without proctor support. Access to this area is provided on a first-come basis. Online reservations are not available for the self-paced lab area. This area offers all of the topics covered by the ILL sessions plus many additional topics.
